DAY 1: ADDIS – BAHIRDAR
Early in the morning, depart north to Bahir Dar via Debre Markos. On the way visit the Portuguese bridge, said to have been the first bridge in Ethiopia. Afterward, you will pass through the spectacular Blue Nile Gorge. The gorge extends nearly 400km and reaches depths up to 1500m. Overnight in Bahir Dar (hotel).
DAY 2: FULL DAY IN BAHIRDAR
The morning after breakfast, we will be starting your day with a boat cruise on this beautiful highland lake to see the monastery church of the beautifully decorated Ura Kidanmihret, and Azwa Mariam that allows both genders. Under the thatched roof of the monastery, there are some distinctive colorful frescoes of religious scenes and an impressive display of illuminated bibles written in “Geez” the religious language from which Amharic is derived. Then afternoon will take a scenic drive of 32 km to the little town of Tiss Abay and walk for about twenty minutes to visit the famous Blue Nile Falls. The falls are locally known as Tiss Isat meaning, “Water that smokes”. Those who may wish to descend to the base of the falls must climb back to the other side and cross the Blue Nile in a boat in-order to back to the point of departure, overnight Bahirdar
DAY 3: BAHIRDAR: GONDER
After early breakfast, we will head to Gonder. Gonder known as the “Camelot” of Africa, is nestled in the foothills of the breathtaking Semien Mountains National Park in the northwestern part of the country. It was the 17th and 18th-century capital city of Ethiopia, which was founded by Emperor Fasiladas (1632 – 1667) and was home to a number of emperors & warlords, curtsies, and kings who built several castles and palaces around the area. Visit the oldest and the most impressive Gonderine structure, the magnificent castle compound including the two-storied palace of emperor Fasiladas, built of roughly hewn brown basalt stone held together with mortar, the fantastically decorated Debre Brehan Selassie Church (light of Trinity), the bath (now baptismal place during Ethiopian Epiphany, January 19) of king Fasiladas and the ruined palace of Queen Mintiwab at Qusquam, were the Scottish explorer James Bruce used to reside for sometimes, Overnight in Gonder .
DAY 4: GONDER LALIBELA
In the morning, proceed driving to Lalibela via Woreta, passing through Amhara state. Today will have a long hours drive (8hrs). I promise you won’t get exhausted driving by stunning views of the Guna Mountains as you travel through this dramatic landscape. Overnight in Lalibela (hotel).
DAY 5: FULL DAY VISITING AMAZING ROCK-HEWEN CHURCHS
The rock-hewn church in Lalibela is divided into two the first group and the second group churches. So, after breakfast, we will be visiting the first group of churches and the second group in the afternoon. Overnight in Lalibela Hotel. DAY 6: LALIBELA – ADDIS Today this day; we will take a flight back to Addis around mid-day. In the afternoon, as an option, we can visit one of the biggest outdoor markets in Africa called Merkato
